If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

I have one. Seems to work with the apps you'd expect it to; BBC Iplayer, YouTube, Netflix etc.

Very easy to set up, works pretty instantly with my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. No problems streaming.

I think there are a few apps that work with it that let you upload stuff onto the cloud, and then stream it down to your chromecast, like Realplayer Cloud and Plex Media Server, but they're both paid-for or limited services. I imagine it's only a matter of time before someone manages to bodge it so you can go straight from PC to Chromecast without the internet being a middle-man, but I can't see anything for it so far.

This is worth a read, for a general overview of the latest(ish) apps available for it.
