Revamp on a budget.

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Revamp on a budget.

Post by Chickenz »

Sup chaps.

The innards of my pc are starting to show there age now and it's time for some new parts. Sadly my days of being able to spend silly amounts of pennies are long gone and so this needs to be done as efficiently as possible.

Case, psu and drives are ok but the rest of the specs are as follows:

Q6600 cpu
4gb ram DDR2
2 x 8800GTS 512mb cards in SLI
Mobo is a Nforce 780i SLI

So im gonna need to replace all of the above for as little as possible.

Top level is £500 at the most.

Be gentle :(

You might get good enough results from just replacing the graphics cards, the gonk is more or less the same spec (only with the cpu at 3.2) but with a much newer gpu(7850), handles ps2, fc3 and gw2 at decent settings

Agreed. I've not upgraded my CPU in years. the 8800 was a great card but it's really old now.

That sounds like a betterecheaper plan. Any reccomendations on compatible cards. I'll also need a cooler for the cpu as the watercooling will be going too.

Seems fair enough to me, but saying that you can get a new amd 7850 for about the same money, and the extra gig of memory and much more modern chip might make for a little more longevity.

The nvidia is a 3 year old card, so isn't particularly efficient.

Slight derailment but I know a guy who's just put two titans in sli. I might just kill him and take all his money because he seemingly has more money and less sense than chickenz of old.
