The Girl on the Train
Jesus Christ what a boring, boring, fucking dull shitty boring film this is.
Edit: in fairness Emily Blunt is great as always, and the depiction of an alcoholic as the unreliable narrator is good, but it's still brain numbingly tedious.

Re: Movie mini reviews
Embrace of the Serpent Set in the Amazon jungle, the film follows the last known member of a tribe and his journeys with two scientist/explorers - one in 1909 and the other in 1940. Great film. Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in the 2015 Oscars. I found it very compelling and hypnotic - th...

Re: TV Show Mini-Reviews
Westworld I mentioned on Discord that this has just pipped Dirk Gently for my series of the year. It's superb. As with DG it also boasts an incredible soundtrack - two of my favourite pieces below, one an original piece, and one an interpretation of the Rolling Stones' Paint It Black (do not read th...

Re: TV Show Mini-Reviews
Finished watching Dirk Gently, and I think it might be my favourite series of the year. Really hope they do another.

Re: TV Show Mini-Reviews
Just starting watching Dirk Gently and I love it - much better than the trailers lead me to believe. Don't expect the books, just a very good realisation of the character in them. The supporting characters really add to the flow of things, and they haven't pulled back on the weirdness.

Star Wars: Rogue One It's rather good :stormtrooper: I thought the first half dragged a bit, but the second half was very good. There were a few too many call backs and cute references to other films for my liking though. I fear that will now become a staple for all future Star Wars films. The firs...

I saw that pop up on Netflix yesterday, so I might give it a go once I've finished binging on House of Cards.

Re: Movie mini reviews
Just got round to watching Suicide Squad. What a bag of shite. I mean, I didn't have high expectations going into it anyway, but it still managed to be worse than I thought. Don't really have much more to say than has already been pointed out a thousands times already (i.e. it's just a series of tra...

Re: Movie mini reviews
Nocturnal Animals Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed this, I don't think it's for everyone - of the 6 people who were in the screening I was at, 3 walked out before the end (and each one separately at thirds of the way through). Amy Adams and Jake Gylenngalalal are both tremendous, and I really think they...

Re: Movie mini reviews
Arrival Excellent film. Basically focused on what humanity does when presented with an alien race that's not trying to instantly murder them as per pretty much every other alien film. It's got some really clever bits, and the climax is a phone call :) Can't say much more without giving stuff away. ...

Re: TV Show Mini-Reviews
I thought this series was on par with previous ones myself. Regarding "twists", I don't see them as such personally. The problem with "twists" is that everyone starts looking for them and assumes that's what the whole episode is about - it's not, they're just a backdrop to the ma...

Despite not being overly impressed with previous Wolverine films, I can't help myself from getting hyped for this.
